Kelly Lewandowski is beginning her fourth year as the assistant women’s basketball coach at Gettysburg College in 2011-12.
Lewandowski’s success as a former student-athlete at the University of Scranton has taken hold at Gettysburg. Over the last three seasons, Gettysburg has posted a record of 57-23 (.713 winning percentage), including 42-16 in the Centennial Conference. The Bullets have qualified for the postseason in each of the last two years, including a visit to the NCAA Division III “Sweet 16” in 2010. The 2009-10 squad set a school record with 24 victories, while the 2010-11 team won 19 games.
Lewandowski brings an impressive resume as a former basketball standout at perennial national powerhouse Scranton. From 2002 to 2006, she helped the Royals reach the NCAA Division III Tournament four times, including back-to-back appearances in the Final Four (2005-06). During her career, Scranton posted an outstanding record of 110-13 (.894), won three Freedom Conference championships, and finished ranked among the nation’s top-15 four times. As a junior, she was tabbed NCAA all-sectional following her performance in the sectional final against second-ranked Bowdoin College. As a senior, Lewandowski captained the team to a school-record 31 victories and a victory in the third-place game of the NCAA Tournament.
A four-year letterwinner on the hardwood, Lewandowski appeared in 122 career games and scored over 500 points, pulled down nearly 400 rebounds, handed out nearly 200 assists, and made over 150 steals. Additionally, she was a three-time member of the Middle Atlantic Conference Academic Honor Roll and spent two seasons as a member of Scranton’s women’s lacrosse team.
Lewandowski, a native of Willow Grove, Pa., graduated from Scranton in 2006 with a degree in psychology. She went on to work in Temple University’s athletics department as a member of its marketing and promotions office from 2006-07 and returned to her alma mater in 2007 as an assistant basketball coach, guiding the Royals to a conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Lewandowski attained a master’s degree in sports and recreation administration from Temple in 2008.
