Hall of Athletic Honor
Hampered by a nagging inflammation of the shoulder, she accomplished more in two full years than many athletes gain in four years.
A freestyle and butterfly specialist, she gained 21 individual first places in her very first year and was a member of 12 winning relay teams. She was the conference champion that year in the 50-freestyle and 100-butterfly and was a member of the conference champion 400-medley and 400-freestyle relay teams. She earned four All-America certificates at the AIAW national championships - placing second in the 50-butterfly, sixth in the 50-freestyle and fourth in the 100-butterfly besides swimming a leg on the sixth place 200-medley relay team.
As her shoulder flared up her sophomore year, she went on to win the conference championship in the 100-butterfly, 100-freestyle and as a member of the 400-freestyle relay team. The NCAA established championships for women this year, and she became Gettysburg's very first national champion, winning the 50-butterfly. She went on to place fourth in the 100-fly and handled a leg on four relay teams, all of which placed. She earned five All-America certificates that year.
Two of her school records - 54.5 seconds for the 100-freestyle and 58.90 seconds for the 100-butterfly - have withstood the test of time.
