Hall of Athletic Honor
By any measure, Cassidy's accomplishments in the pool are staggering. In her stellar four-year career, she became the swimming program's second-ever national champion, earned All-America honors 25 times, won 83 individual races and was named the Middle Atlantic Conference's most valuable swimmer on three occasions. She led the Bullets to four consecutive MAC championships and four straight top-ten NCAA finishes, setting countless records along the way.
As a freshman in 1988-89, she earned seven All-America honors at her first NCAA championship meet, all in program-record time. The following year, she lost only one race as Gettysburg stormed through the regular season with a 12-0 record, then made Bullet history by winning the 500-yard freestyle at the NCAA championships. Gettysburg finished a program-best seventh in the team standings.
She was even better in 1990-91, earning five more All-America nods while repeating as national champion in the 500 and shattering the NCAA record with a time of 4:55.85. For good measure, she also finished second in the 200 and third in the 1650, setting program records in both events.
She wrapped up her career with seven MAC gold medals and six more All-America honors while winning the Clair B. Noerr Award in 1992.
A native of Westfield, N.J., she graduated from Gettysburg in 1992 with a degree in art.
