D3hoops.com Preseason Top 25
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Armed with five returning starters from a team that reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Tournament, the Gettysburg College men’s basketball team has been ranked No. 11 in the D3hoops.com Preseason Top 25.
The ranking is the highest by D3hoops.com in program history for the Bullets, whose previous best was 15th early in the 2001-02 season. Gettysburg did not break into the D3hoops.com Top 25 last season but was second among “others receiving votes” in the final poll.
The Bullets are coming off a record-breaking season in which they finished 24-5, winning four more games than any team in program history. Gettysburg also went 16-2 in Centennial Conference play, good for a second-place finish in the conference standings, and reached the conference championship game. The Bullets set a school record for consecutive wins in one season, reeling off 11 straight wins from Jan. 5 to March 1. Head coach George Petrie’s squad received an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament before posting the first two NCAA playoff wins in program history.
The D3hoops.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, sports information directors, and media members from across the country and is published weekly.
Gettysburg opens its season Nov. 21-22, when it hosts the 18th annual Days Inn Tip-Off Tournament. The Bullets take on Elizabethtown College in the first round on Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.
