Whitelaw Leads Men's Golf to Third-Place Finish at Messiah

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Sophomore George Whitelaw (Weston, Mass./Dexter School) tied for third among 83 competitors, and the Gettysburg College men’s golf team finished third out of 16 teams with a season-best score of 323 at the Messiah College Fall Invitational Thursday at Blue Ridge Country Club.

Whitelaw shot a five-over 77, taking three strokes off his collegiate-best, to tie Brandon Davis of Muhlenberg College, which won the team title with a 314. Messiah College edged out Gettysburg for second place by one stroke.

Zachary Oyer of Muhlenberg claimed medalist honors with a 74 while Matt Lukehart of Stevenson University placed second with a 76.

Gettysburg’s third-place finish marked the team’s best performance at an invitational since taking third at the 2008 Gettysburg Invitational.

Senior Reid Sessa (Garden City, N.Y./Xavier) and freshman Austin Smith (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) each fired an 80 to tie for ninth while junior Peter Kratsios (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) tied for 20th with an 82 to complete the team scoring.

Also competing were juniors Peter Ruymann (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional), who tied for 13th with an 81, and Colin Quinn (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade), who tied for 46th with an 87.

The Bullets continue their fall season on Wednesday, when they compete in the Elizabethtown College Invitational at the Hershey Country Club.
