GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College men's tennis team got back on track with an 8-1 victory over visiting Ursinus College in a Centennial Conference match on a sunny Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Bullets improved to 7-7 overall and 2-5 in the CC.
Gettysburg jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a doubles sweep. Junior
Kevin Raynes (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy) and freshman
Mike McLaughlin (Hanover, Pa./South Western) picked up an 8-3 win at No. 3, while freshmen
Terry Keegan (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) and
Sebastian Rodriguez (Plano, Texas/Plano West) earned their team-best eighth doubles victory of the season 8-4 at No. 2. Senior
Mike Leary (Alexandria, Va./Gonzaga College (D.C.)) and junior
Dale Beshore (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) needed a bit more effort than their teammates, but still walked away with a 9-7 decision.
Keegan paced the Bullets in singles play with a quick 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3. His doubles teammate, Rodriguez, added a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 5, while Beshore and McLaughlin each won 6-0, 6-1 at first and fourth singles, respectively. Leary rounded out the score with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the second flight.
Next up for Gettysburg is a home date with nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Tuesday, April 21, at 4 p.m.
