GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Rising senior
Kerrin Epstein (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia) became the first-ever women's track & field/cross country Academic All-American with her selection to the
ESPN The Magazine College Division Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
With her selection, Epstein becomes Gettysburg's fourth Academic All-American this season, the most in school history. All four were chosen within an 11-day span this spring, with lacrosse players
Nicole Ditillo and
Tim Kurpis named to the At-Large Teams last week and
Tyler Kreitz '09 grabbing a spot on the Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team yesterday.
Epstein raced to another outstanding season this past cross country season. She captured her third-straight All-Centennial Conference honor by finishing seventh at the conference championships to earn first-team accolades. She also attained all-region status for the second consecutive season after finishing 18th at the NCAA Division III Mid-East Regional. Throughout the season, Epstein was Gettysburg's top finisher in six of the eight meets in which she competed. She helped the Bullets finish fifth at the Centennial Conference Championships.
During this past spring, Epstein studied abroad in Denmark. An English and political science double major with a 4.03 GPA, she is a two-time selection to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team. The treasurer for Gettysburg's Habitat for Humanity, she also helped establish Sigma Tau Delta, the school's English honor society.
The Academic All-America College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I schools in the United States. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA and be a starter or significant reserve.
