GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Recent graduate
Tyler Kreitz (Hanover, Pa./New Oxford) and rising senior
Kerrin Epstein (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia) have been named to the
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II College Division Men’s and Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Both Kreitz and Epstein are first-team selections and will now advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
Kreitz earned his first-ever academic all-district honor after turning in another outstanding season as the Bullets top shot put and discus thrower. For the second year in a row, he earned the bronze in both the shot put and discus at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships this past spring. He also qualified for the ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships in both events and placed seventh in the shot and 23rd in the discus. He recorded a personal-record (PR) throw of 49-9 1/4 in the shot put this season, a mark that ranks second on Gettysburg’s all-time outdoor list.
Indoors, Kreitz captured the silver in the shot put at the Centennial Conference Championships this past winter, and his PR of 49-3 also ranks second all-time in school history. He also placed fourth in the shot put at the ECAC Indoor Championships.
Kreitz helped Gettysburg finish fifth at the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships and fourth at the outdoor championships.
Off the track, Kreitz finished with a 3.89 grade-point average as a biochemistry and molecular biology major. He received Gettysburg’s Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Award for the biochemistry senior with the highest GPA as well as the Dr. George W. Stoner Award, given to a graduating senior accepted into a recognized medical school. A member of Phi Betta Kappa, he will attend Georgetown University School of Medicine next year.
Epstein landed a spot on the academic all-district team for the second year in a row after earning second-team recognition a year ago. In cross country, she captured her third-straight All-Centennial Conference honor by finishing seventh at the conference championships to earn first-team accolades. She also attained all-region status for the second consecutive season after finishing 18th at the NCAA Division III Mid-East Regional. Throughout the season, Epstein was Gettysburg’s top finisher in six of the eight meets in which she competed. She helped the Bullets finish fifth at the Centennial Conference Championships.
During this past spring, Epstein studied abroad in Denmark. An English and political science double major with a 4.03 GPA, she is a two-time selection to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team. The treasurer for Gettysburg’s Habitat for Humanity, she also helped establish Sigma Tau Delta, the school’s English honor society.
The District II College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA and be a starter or significant reserve.
