LATROBE, Pa. – After finishing runner-up at five events in her first two seasons, Gettysburg College junior
Leah Tuscano (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) finally pushed her way to the top in the first women's golf event of the year, carding a career-best 82 at the Saint Vincent College Lady Bearcat Invitational hosted by the Glengarry Links in Latrobe, Pa., on Friday.
Tuscano had been one of Gettysburg's top golfers in her opening two seasons with nine top-five finishes, but the top spot eluded the junior until Friday afternoon at Glengarry. Her score was three strokes better than her previous collegiate best and topped the field by one on the par-70 course.
With Tuscano in front, the Bullets finished just one stroke off the top position in the team standings with a total score of 352. Franklin & Marshall College took top billing with 351 on the strength of the number two and three individual finishers. The remainder of the eight-team field was well off the pace of the two Centennial Conference institutions.
A pair of freshmen made impressive debuts for Gettysburg as
Molly Nulty (Gettysburg, Pa./Homer) and
Valerie Leone (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich) finished tied for fifth and ninth, respectively. Nulty carded an 85, while Leone was four strokes back with an 89.
Rounding out the Bullets lineup was junior
Alex Moran (Boxford, Mass./The Governor's Academy) whose 96 tied her second-best career round and placed her 14th overall.
Gettysburg continues its fall slate with the Susquehanna University Fall Invitational at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club on Saturday, Sept. 26.
