Smith Wins Susquehanna Invitational in Second Collegiate Outing

HUMMELS WHARF, Pa. – Competing in just his second collegiate round, freshman Austin Smith (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) placed first at the Susquehanna Fall Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club.
Smith carded a two-over-par 72 to finish in a tie with Mitch Mercer of Susquehanna for medalist honors in the field of 70. However, Smith won the match by virtue of the first tiebreaker – having a lower score on the second hole.
As a team, the Bullets finished with a score of 332 to place ninth among 14 teams. Susquehanna won the team title with a 302.
Junior Colin Quinn (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) was Gettysburg’s second-lowest finisher, tying for 21st with an 81. Sophomore Jim Fellows (Bow, N.H./Bow) tied for 52nd with an 89 while classmate Rich Clough (Sparks, Md./St. Paul’s) completed the team scoring with a 90, tying for 55th. Junior Connor Delaney (Menands, N.Y./Hotchkiss School) also competed and took 64th with a 94.
Gettysburg returns to action on Thursday, when it competes at the Messiah Invitational.
