GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's tennis team earned a 9-0 win over Messiah College on Saturday to capture its 2009-10 season opener.
The Bullets did not lose a set in any of their three doubles matches or six singles contests.
Gettysburg starting by sweeping the doubles competition, as junior
Katie Taylor (Ocean City, Md./Worcester Prep) and senior
Meghan Kelly (Easton, Conn./Kent School) winning 8-0 at No. 1. Senior
Kelly Eurich (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) and freshman
Meghan Fornshell (Westport, Conn./Academy of Our Lady of Mercy) captured an 8-5 decision at No. 2 while sophomore
Liz Heisler (Gwynedd, Pa./Wissahickon) and freshman
Laura Habecker (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School) prevailed 8-4 at No. 3
In singles action, Taylor came away with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 while Eurich was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 2. Sophomore Kylle O'Sullivan (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) scored a 6-2, 6-3 win at the third flight, and Kelly claimed No. 4 by a 6-1, 6-3 count. Habecker and Heisler won at Nos. 5-6 by scores of 6-1, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-0, respectively.
Messiah fell to 2-4 with the loss.
Gettysburg plays its only other fall match on Oct. 7, when it visits Shepherd University at 3:30 p.m.
