GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College volleyball team improved to 7-0 this season with a 3-1 non-conference victory over host York (Pa.) College Wednesday night. After dropping the first set 25-22, the Bullets bounced back to sweep the next three 25-17, 25-21, 25-9.
Gettysburg got off to a rocky start, but the ship righted quickly behind seniors
Kristina Mercier (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) and
Amanda Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg). Mercier turned in a career night on the attack with 20 kills in 42 attempts, adding 14 digs and three total blocks. Most of those kills came from Krampf, who put up a season-high 43 assists to with four aces and 18 digs.
Juniors
Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and
Nicole Burns (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro) and sophomore
Virginia Hogan (Alpharetta, Ga./Chattahoochee) each turned in seven kills and sophomore
Katie McConville (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) added six kills.
Senior libero
Kristin Kotewicz (Columbia, Md./River Hill) led the defensive effort with a season-high 26 digs. '
Heather Bucher led York (2-2) with 10 kills and 15 digs.
Gettysburg will put its undefeated mark on the line this weekend by hosting the five-team Blast Tournament inside Bream Gym. Joining the Bullets on the court will be Elizabethtown College, the University of Mary Washington, Bridgewater College, and Frostburg State University. Gettysburg and Elizabethtown begin the two-day event on Friday, Sept. 11, at 3 p.m.
