COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Four members of the Gettysburg College track & field teams competed at the Ursinus College Pentathlon Wednesday evening.
Turning in the teams' highest finish was senior
Vanessa Pabon (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford), who earned 2,610 points and placed fourth among 20 competitors. Pabon finished among the top-five in three of the five events, winning the 800-meter run (2:38.55), placing fourth in the long jump (15-9 1/2), and tying for fifth in the high jump (4-9).
Freshman Joy Fry (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) and sophomore
Alex Van Tuyl (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) also competed for the women's team, finishing 24 points apart. Fry placed seventh with 2,350 points while Van Tuyl took eighth with a score of 2,326. They both turned in their top performance in the high jump, with Fry placing fourth in 4-10 1/4 and Van Tuyl tying for fifth at 4-9.
Coppin State's Christina Epps won with 2,768 points.
For the men's team, junior
Robby Ford (Reistertown, Md./McDonogh School) was the Bullets lone competitor, placing seventh out of 13 athletes with 2,510 points. He tied for fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.79) and was fifth in the shot put (28-9).
Tim White of College of New Jersey won with 3,196 points.
Gettysburg returns to the oval on Saturday, when it competes at the George Mason University Patriot Games.
