SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Gettysburg College swimming teams split a Centennial Conference meet at Swarthmore College on Saturday, as the women posted a 111-94 victory while the men dropped a 117-88 decision.

The women’s team, which won six of 11 events, improved to 7-1 and 5-0 in the Centennial Conference while running their conference winning streak to 19. The men’s squad fell to 4-3 and 3-1 in conference action.

Five different Bullets picked up individual victories for the women’s squad. Junior Maggie Mulderrig (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep School) claimed the 50-free in 25.78, earning her sixth win in seven tries swimming the event in dual meets this season. Senior Patrice Boucher (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Shipley School) added a win in the 200-IM (2:20.19) while freshman Caroline Coolidge (South Windsor, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) prevailed in the 100-free (56.44).

Freshman Siobhan Collins (Darnestown, Md./Bullis School) led a 1-2-3-4 sweep in the 200-back, touching in 2:17.93 with freshman Cassie Close (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga), Boucher, and sophomore Kayte Demont (Cumberland, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) taking second through fourth, respectively.

Leading a 1-2 finish in the 200-breast was freshman Brooke Lacey (Darien, Conn./Darien), who was clocked at 2:32.74 and followed by classmate Katie Timmerman (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) in 2:33.23.

The women’s 400 free relay team of Mulderrig, junior Susannah Ferrer (Darien, Conn./Darien), Boucher, and Coolidge closed the meet by winning in 3:44.93.

For the men’s team, sophomore Matt Libby (Freeport, Maine/Cheverus) continued his outstanding season, winning both the 200-IM (2:01.36) and the 100-free (48.12). Libby has now won 16 times in 20 dual-meet individual races and has picked up 18 individual victories overall.

Finishing behind Libby in the 100-free was sophomore Paul Besancon (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West), who touched in 50.00. Junior Donald Bennett (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) was also victorious, claiming the 200-back in 2:01.22, with sophomore Pat McDevitt (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) taking second in 2:02.98.

The men’s team also captured both relays. The 400 medley squad of junior Adam Taft (Wilton, Conn./Wilton), sophomore Roger Nawrocki (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional), sophomore Tom Everett (Timonium, Md./McDonogh School), and Libby led off the meet with a 3:39.42 victory while Everett, Besancon, junior Stephen Stopenski (Merchantville, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep), and sophomore Drew Close (Berwyn, Pa./Haverford School) finished it by clocking a 3:18.83 in the 400 free relay.

Gettysburg returns to the pool on Wednesday, when it visits Dickinson College at 7 p.m. in another Centennial Conference meet.
