LANCASTER, Pa. – Sophomore
Matt Libby (Freeport, Maine/Cheverus) had another big day to lead the Gettysburg College swimming teams on Day Two of the Centennial Conference (CC) Championships on Saturday at Franklin & Marshall College's Kunkel Aquatic Center.
The women's team, which led by 18 points after the first day of competition, has slipped into second in a tight race for the team title. With 437 points, the Bullets now trail Franklin & Marshall by 11 points. On the men's side, Gettysburg checks in at third place, scoring 370 points and trailing Swarthmore (504.5) and F&M (570.5).
After anchoring the 200-free relay team to a come-from-behind victory on Friday, Libby placed among the top-two in three others on Saturday. He earned his first individual Centennial Conference gold medal when he won the 100-fly in 51.27, just two-hundredths of a second shy of a NCAA “B” cut. However, he would get his B cut as well as a school record later in the evening, when he captured runner-up honors in the 100-back, finishing in 51.41. Libby broke the former Gettysburg record of 52.15 set by Matt McKenna in 1995, and he is the Gettysburg men's first 100-fly CC champion since Pete Casares in 1998.
