GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Undefeated Oneonta State snapped Gettysburg's seven-game winning streak, sweeping a doubleheader from the Bullets Saturday afternoon at a sunny Kirchhoff Field.

The Red Dragons (9-0) rallied from a 6-0 first-inning deficit to win the opener 10-8 in nine innings before scoring the go-ahead runs in the seventh inning of a 6-5 nightcap victory.

Senior third baseman Mike Backus and junior designated hitter Matt Karis each went 3-for-7 with two runs to lead the Bullets (8-6) while senior outfielder Kevin Langhauser was 3-for-9 with two runs. Sophomore second baseman Augie Stadtmueller and sophomore outfielder Drew Roy drove in three runs apiece.

Playing its first games in over a week since returning from their Spring Break trip to Florida, Oneonta found itself down right away after starter Jeffrey Carter was touched up for six runs on six hits in the bottom of the first, which was highlighted by a two-run double from Stadtmueller. Carter settled in, however, and allowed just two more runs over the next four innings.

In the meantime, the Red Dragons climbed back into it with a three-run second and a two-run third to make it 6-5 against freshman starter Will Patterson. Stadtmueller drove in another run with a third-inning single to make it 7-5.

The two teams exchanged single runs in the fourth, with Oneonta scoring once off senior reliever John Antrim-Cashin and the Bullets getting an RBI-single from Karis to restore its two-run (8-6) advantage.

Oneonta pulled even after getting single runs in the sixth and seventh against senior reliever Mike Sweeney. The Dragons were retired in order in the eighth before they pushed across a pair of runs with a three-hit ninth.

Langhauser led off the bottom of the ninth with a single – the Bullets only hit in four innings against reliever Anthony Bates – but was left there after Gettysburg went down in order.

Langhauser, Backus, Stadtmueller, and senior catcher Craig Barrows all stroked two hits apiece for the Bullets while Stadtmueller finished with all three of his RBIs in the opener. Roy scored a pair of runs for Gettysburg.

Steve Gauck went 3-for-5 for Oneonta while Bates (1-0) picked up the win in relief, striking out five. Patterson pitched three innings and gave up five runs on five hits before Antrim-Cashin fanned five while giving up two runs in two innings of work. Sweeney (0-2) was dealt the loss, yielding three runs in four innings.

The Red Dragons struck first in the nightcap, plating two runs in the top of the first against freshman starter Ryan Taylor. But Gettysburg answered right back against Dave Filak in the bottom of the inning, posting three runs on three hits, including a two-run double from Roy.

The Bullets went ahead 4-2 in the third before the Dragons answered with the next four runs. It was a 4-4 game heading into the seventh, but Oneonta put the first two batters on base with bunts. After a sacrifice bunt, cleanup hitter Michael Center was intentionally walked. Gauck then drilled a two-run single into left to put his team up by two before Taylor got the final two outs.

Gettysburg rallied with one in the bottom of the inning against Bates, Oneonta's fourth pitcher of the game. Langhauser singled up the middle to lead off before junior outfielder Cam Riera was hit with a pitch. Backus then bunted the runners over before Karis cut the lead to one with an infield single. However, Bates escaped with a strikeout and groundout to earn his third save of the year.

Karis and junior shortstop Chris Simard each had two hits for the Bullets while Roy finished with three RBIs. Riera scored two runs.

Taylor (1-2) went the distance for Gettysburg, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out six. Christopher Smith (2-0) threw 1 2/3 innings to get the win for Oneonta.

Kevin Knack was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs in the nightcap for the Red Dragons.

Gettysburg plays its Centennial Conference opener on Tuesday, when it hosts Johns Hopkins University, ranked No. 30 by the American Baseball Coaches Association and No. 25 by D3baseball.com, at 3:30 p.m.
