Box Score

VERO BEACH, Fla. – Junior Cam Riera went 3-for-5 with three RBIs while freshman Will Patterson threw a six-hit shutout in his collegiate debut as the Bullets rolled to a 15-0 win over Emory & Henry College on Tuesday in Florida.

Gettysburg (3-4), which broke open the game with an eight-hit, nine-run ninth, banged out a season-high 17 hits. Senior Mike Backus went 2-for-4 with three RBIs while classmate Craig Barrows was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Junior Matt Karis, sophomore Clint O'Brien, and junior Chris Simard added two hits apiece for Gettysburg.

Patterson (1-0) retired the first eight batters he faced before yielding a single to the No. 9 hitter. All of the hits he gave up were singles, and he allowed more than one baserunner in just one inning. Patterson did not walk a batter and struck out six.

It was a scoreless game after the first three innings before the Bullets took control with a four-run fourth. Gettysburg got on the scoreboard when senior Kevin Langhauser drew a bases-loaded walk, the fourth free pass of the inning issued by reliever Collin Metz. After a Riera sacrifice fly, Backus knocked in two more runs with a single, making it 4-0.

Riera pushed the Bullets lead to 6-0 with a two-run single in the sixth before Gettysburg erupted with its big ninth inning. Barrows drove in a pair with a single to make it 8-0 as seven of the Bullets eight hits in the inning were one-baggers.

Metz (0-1) took the loss for the Wasps.

Gettysburg takes Wednesday off before continuing its trip on Thursday, when it takes on New Jersey City in a single nine-inning game starting at 11 a.m.
