Four Bullets Capture All-America, ECAC Honors

Kurpis, McGrath Gain First-Team All-America Honors

USILA All-America Team | ECAC Metro/South Region All-Star Team

PERRY, N.Y. and CAPE COD, Mass. – Four members of the Gettysburg College men's lacrosse team have been named to the ECAC Division III Metro/South Region All-Star Team or the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III All-America Team, it has been announced.

Seniors Timothy Kurpis and Kyle McGrath were each named to the USILA All-America First Team while classmate Joe Brody was a second-team selection. In addition, junior Danno Lynch earned Honorable Mention All-America recognition. McGrath was also pegged a First Team ECAC All-Star while Brody and Kurpis were second-team picks. 

Also, both Brody and Kurpis were named USILA Scholar All-Americans, an award given to seniors who garner USILA All-America status and achieve a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. 

Kurpis, a defenseman, captured his second straight All-America honor after picking up honorable mention last season. Also named to the All-Centennial Conference First Team, he helped lead a defense that led the Centennial Conference and is currently ranked 12th in Division III (6.67 goals allowed per game). For the season, he picked up 31 ground balls while ranking second on the squad with 22 caused turnovers. Kurpis also notched one goal and one assist on the offensive end. 

McGrath, who captured his first-ever All-America award, is coming off a career-best season in which he was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year and to the All-Centennial Conference First Team. The midfielder put together his best year at Gettysburg statistically, setting career-highs for goals (38), assists (19), points (57), and ground balls (39) while leading the team in goals and points. Among the Centennial Conference leaders, he finished seventh in goals per game (2.11), sixth in assists per game (1.06), and fifth in points per game (3.17). McGrath tied a career-high with five goals in wins over then-No. 5 Dickinson College and Franklin & Marshall College, and he dished out a career-high four assists in the Centennial Conference championship game against Haverford College. 

Brody, an attackman, became an All-American for the second time in his career, as he was also a second-team pick in 2008. Also named First Team All-Centennial Conference, he finished third on the team in both goals (32) and assists (16) this season. He was second among the Bullets with 48 points set a career-high with 33 ground balls. In the Centennial Conference, he was ninth in points per game (2.67), and 10th in both assists per game (0.89) and goals per game (1.78). In addition, Brody became just the fifth player in school history to score 200 points when he reached the milestone in a win over Ursinus College on April 10. He remains fifth in points (207) while ranking sixth in goals (137) and seventh in assists (70).

Brody, Kurpis, and McGrath were all selected to play in the USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game on Friday at Goucher College. 

Lynch also pocketed his first All-America award after turning in a solid season in his first full year as a starter. A midfielder, he posted career-highs for goals (33), assists (eight), and points (41) while picking up 10 ground balls. He was second on the team in goals and ninth in the Centennial Conference in goals per game (1.88). In his top performance of the season, Lynch scored a career-high five goals to go with one assist in a 17-10 come-from-behind victory at Hampden-Sydney College on Feb. 27. He also had four goals in a 16-6 win over Goucher on March 3. 

Gettysburg, currently ranked No. 4 by USILA, closed out its season 15-3 (8-0 Centennial Conference) and advanced to the championship game of the Centennial Conference tournament before earning an at-large berth in the NCAA Division III tournament.
