Jeff Butterworth (left) earned his first Academic All-District award while Kerrin Epstein became a three-time honoree.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Recent graduates Jeff Butterworth and Kerrin Epstein have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II College Division Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

With her first-team selection, Epstein will now advance to the national ballot for consideration on the Academic All-America team, which will be announced June 24.

Butterworth earned his first-ever Academic All-District honor after landing a spot on the second team. During cross country season, he was one of the Bullets top-four finishers in every race, including the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University, where he took 32nd among 322 Division I, II, and III runners while clocking a personal record (PR) of 25:49 for the men's 8,000-meter racing distance. Butterworth also took 26th at the Centennial Conference Championships and 49th at the NCAA Mideast Regional this year, his best career finishes at both meets.

On the oval, Butterworth enjoyed a strong season as well. Indoors, he broke the school record (8:51.47) in the 3,000-meter run at the George Mason Invitational, and at the Centennial Conference Championships, he finished eighth in the 5,000-meter run and ninth in the 3,000. Outdoors, Butterworth placed 13th in the 10,000-meter run at the CC Championships. For his career, he finished among the top-10 in school history in the indoor 5,000 (second), the outdoor 5,000 (sixth), and the 10,000 (sixth).

In the classroom, Butterworth finished with a 3.82 GPA as a history and mathematics double major and was the winner of the Daniel E. Zeigler Award for the highest GPA (4.19) in math. He is a member of both Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Alpha Theta.

Epstein, a Third Team Academic All-American last season, landed a spot on the academic all-district squad for the third year in a row after earning first-team honors last year and second-team recognition in 2008. Her successful senior campaign began during cross country season, when she became the seventh runner in program history to qualify for the national championships after finishing third at the NCAA Mideast Regional, good for her third-straight all-region award. She went on to place 54th among 279 runners at the NCAA Division III Championships. She also captured All-Centennial Conference honors for the fourth year in a row by finishing fifth at the conference championships to earn first-team accolades for the second straight season. Earlier in the year, Epstein helped the Bullets into the national rankings for two weeks, their first since 1992.

Epstein continued to run well in track season, starting with an indoor campaign in which she broke the school record (5:13.70) in the mile. At the Centennial Conference Championships, she earned the bronze in the 3,000-meter run, finishing in 10:27.35 and missing the school record by less than a second, took fifth in the mile, and helped the distance-medley relay team place second. Outdoors, she set the school record (10:24.39) in the 3,000 at the Shippensburg Invitational before running a NCAA provisional-qualifying time and PR of 37:26.90, good for a third-place finish. She also scored additional points for the Bullets by taking seventh in the 1,500-meter run and eighth in the 5,000-meter run. Epstein finished the year ranked 46th nationally in the 10,000.

In the classroom, Epstein finished with a 4.01 GPA as an English and political science double major. Following cross country season, she was awarded a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, given to only 29 female student-athletes across all three NCAA divisions who compete in fall sports. A three-time selection to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team, Epstein has been accepted into law school at the University of Maryland. She is a member of the Pre-Law Honor Society, the English Honor Society, and Phi Beta Kappa.

The District II College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA and be a starter or significant reserve.
