YORK, Pa. – The Gettysburg College wrestling team suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday night, falling to 22nd-ranked York (Pa.) College 34-7 in a non-conference affair.
Gettysburg (1-1) earned two individual victories in its last mat action before the end of 2011. Sophomore
Matt Spano improved to 17-5 on the year with a 10-2 major decision victory over Jimmy Ciampi at 133 pounds.
After four losses, the Bullets jumped back into the win column at 174 pounds. Wrestling up from his usual 165, freshman
Zach Thomson bounced back from his first loss of the season with a 6-5 victory over Matt Heisey. Thomson is now an impressive 18-1 heading into the holiday break.
Gettysburg's closest result among the remaining matches came in the finale as York heavyweight George Saliba edged junior
Kevin Poplaski 5-3.
The Bullets return to action on Jan. 7 with a quadrangular at home. Joining the Orange and Blue will be Hunter College, Washington & Jefferson College, and Washington & Lee University. Opening bouts are set to begin at 1 p.m. inside Bream Gym.
