NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships Competitor List
INDIANAPOLIS – For the second time in three months, senior
Clay Reynolds has parlayed a strong performance at a last-chance meet into an appearance at nationals.
Reynolds was one of 19 athletes who was selected to compete in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held Thursday through Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
Reynolds punched his ticket by clocking a personal-best and provisional-qualifying time of 1:51.70 at the Tuppeny Last Chance Meet, hosted by Swarthmore College on May 14. He will enter the meet with the 13th-fastest time and will run in the preliminaries on Friday at 8 p.m. The 800-meter final is set for Saturday at 3:20 p.m.
During the indoor season, Reynolds qualified for the NCAA championships in the mile at the Columbia Last Chance Meet at the Armory in New York City with a school-record time of 4:12.21. He went on to capture All-America honors, finishing sixth at nationals.
Reynolds, who entered Sunday night's selection process ranked 16th in Division III in the 800, will be the first male track & field athlete at Gettysburg to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships since Phil Ferraro '03 ran in the 400-meter dash at the 2002 meet.
