GETTYSBURG, Pa. – One day after earning a No. 4 national ranking, freshman
Zach Thomson has been named the
d3wrestle.com/WWSport.com Wrestler of the Week, the website announced Friday.
Thomson is the first Gettysburg College grappler to be named Wrestler of the Week by
d3wrestle.com, which gave him his national ranking on Thursday.
Thomson is coming off a big performance at the New York University quad this past Saturday. He finished 3-0 at 165, including a key 8-4 Centennial Conference decision over NYU's David Rice, who was undefeated and ranked third at the time.
For the year, Thomson is 24-1 and leads the Bullets in wins, pins (seven), technical falls (two), and major decisions (six). He opened the season 17-0, racking up the most consecutive wins to start a career in program history. He has won three tournament titles, and his lone loss – a 3-2 decision – came at the hands of the current eighth-ranked wrestler at 165.
Gettysburg (4-4, 1-1 CC) hosts Ursinus College and Muhlenberg College in a pair of Centennial Conference matches on Saturday starting at noon.
