COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Three Gettysburg College track & field athletes competed at the Ursinus College Pentathlon as the Bullets kicked off the 2012 portion of their indoor schedule on Wednesday.
Junior
Tom Senseney scored 2,323 points in his pentathlon debut to finish fourth among eight men's competitors. On the women's side, sophomore
Cari McMaster, also competing in her first-ever pentathlon, scored 1,949 points to place sixth out of seven athletes. In addition, senior
Alexandra Van Tuyl competed but did not finish the final event.
Senseney earned his highest point total (498) in the men's final event, clocking a time of 3:18.06 in the 1,000-meter run. None of his scores dipped below 400, as he posted 445 points in the 60-meter hurdles (10.53), 461 points in the long jump (17-8 3/4), 462 points in the shot put (31-6), and 457 points in the high jump (5-2 1/2).
McMaster also saved her best for last, earning 554 points in the final women's event – the 800-meter run – with a time of 2:41.70. She started with 169 points in the 60-hurdles (13.80), before posting 470 points in the high jump (4-5 1/2), 431 points in the long jump (14-9 3/4), and 325 points in the shot put (22-5 3/4).
The two-time defending Centennial Conference outdoor heptathlon champion, Van Tuyl posted scores of 575 points in the hurdles (10.77), 502 points in the high jump (4-6 3/4), 408 points in the long jump (14-6), and 390 points in the shot put (25-9 1/4).
Gettysburg will compete at the University of Delaware Invitational on Saturday.
