Thomson Records Win No. 30

Anthony Iorio captured an 8-6 decision at 184 pull the Bullets to within 19-15.
BALTIMORE – Gettysburg and Johns Hopkins each won five bouts, but the Blue Jays capitalized on a pin at 125 and a forfeit at 149 to turn back the Bullets 22-18 in a Centennial Conference wrestling match Wednesday evening.

The Bullets (5-9, 1-4 CC) trailed 19-4 midway through the meet before winning four of the last five bouts. It was 19-15 heading into 197, but the hosts clinched it with a 16-9 decision.

Gettysburg collected three major decisions: sophomore Matt Spano at 133 (8-0), freshman Zach Thomson at 165 (11-2), and sophomore Jared Leon at 174 (10-2). Thomson, who posted his team-leading ninth major of the season, becomes just the third wrestler in school history to reach 30 wins; Jake Dell '98 reached the mark all four years of his career while Matt Shank '08 did it three times.

Posting decisions for the Bullets were senior Anthony Iorio at 184 (8-6) and junior Kevin Poplaski at heavyweight (1-0).

The Bullets return to action on Saturday, when they host King's College, Messiah College, and Penn State-Beaver in a non-conference quad match.
