Track & Field Opens Outdoor Schedule With Little Three Meet

Bullets Finish Third, Win Four Events

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Gettysburg College track & field teams opened the outdoor portion of their season at the Little Three Meet on Saturday at Dickinson College.

Competing through a soaking rain, both teams placed third. The women's team finished with 104 points, 23 behind Franklin & Marshall College, while the men's team posted 76 points. Dickinson won both the men's and women's titles, earning 175 points on both sides. F&M's men's team had a score of 108 points.

The Bullet women earned three individual victories. Senior Alexandra Van Tuyl placed in the top-three in four different events, winning the long jump (15-2 3/4), finishing second in both the 100-meter hurdles (17.52), and the javelin (87-5), and taking third in the 100-meter dash (13.80). Sophomore Celia Hartz won the discus (101-9) and was third in the javelin (84-5) while freshman Danielle Bernini was also victorious, prevailing in the high jump (4-10 1/2).

Junior Amanda Koslo added a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash (28.92) as did freshman Taylor Flatau in the triple jump (32-9 1/2). Flateau was also third in the high jump (4-8 3/4), as was sophomore Alex Bull, who clocked a personal record of 18:52.96 in the 5,000-meter run, and freshman Meagan Lesniak, who finished the 800-meter run in 2:32.38. Senior Amanda Pellowe placed fourth among 13 competitors in the 1,500-meter run in 5:13.19.

The men's team was led by freshman Edward Makinde, who won the triple jump (38-1 1/4) and placed third in the long jump (18-3). Junior Andrew Bay took second in both the 100-meter dash (11.73) and 200-meter dash (23.88), as did freshman Tyler Hinton in the 110-meter hurdles (17.21).

Finishing third were sophomore Simeon Daniels in the 100-meter dash (11.79) and junior Will Demakis in the 400-meter hurdles (1:01.29). Demakis was also sixth in a field of 15 in the 100-meter dash (12.01).

Gettysburg continues its season next Saturday at the Susquehanna University Invitational.
