LANCASTER, Pa. – One day after sparking the Bullets to an incredible start to their 2012 season, sophomore Freddy Caruso of the Gettysburg College football team was named the Centennial Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced Sunday.
Caruso returned the opening kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown and finished with 201 all-purpose yards in Gettysburg's 70-0 win over Misericordia University in the Cougars inaugural game. It was the first collegiate kickoff return for Caruso, a wing back who also rushed for a career-high 63 yards on just four carries and caught two passes for 49 yards, and the first kickoff return touchdown since a 92-yarder by Charles Curcio '11 in 2008.
Gettysburg opens its Centennial Conference schedule on Saturday, when it visits Ursinus College at 1 p.m.
