LANCASTER, Pa. – Sophomore linebacker
Joey DeCristofaro (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week following an outstanding performance in the season finale at Franklin & Marshall College.
DeCristofaro turned in a career day in helping Gettysburg claim bragging rights and the Lincoln Trophy with a 21-7 win over the Diplomats. With the score tied 7-7 with just over nine minutes remaining, the sophomore linebacker recorded the first of a school-record three interceptions. The Bullets came right down and scored the go-ahead touchdown and added an insurance score following DeCristofaro's second pick on Franklin & Marshall's very next drive.
DeCristofaro became the seventh Bullet and first in 25 years with three interceptions after leaping high into the air to snag a pass on the Diplomats' final drive of the game. He posted 31 return yards on the interceptions and he piled up a career-high 14 tackles, including six of the solo variety.
The sophomore capped a productive first year as a starter with 62 tackles, three tackles for a loss, two sacks, and two fumble recoveries.
Gettysburg finished the season with a 7-3 overall record, including 6-3 in the conference.
