Connor, Merrigan Pace Bullets at McDaniel Duals

Gettysburg goes 1-2 in dual matches

Barrett Connor '18 went 3-0 at 133 pounds at the McDaniel Duals.
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Sophomores Barrett Connor (Glenside, Pa./Germantown Academy) and Quinn Merrigan (Canton, Mass./Canton) each went unbeaten in three matches at the McDaniel College Duals on Saturday.
 
Gettysburg (2-2) went 1-2 at the event with a win over Penn State Mont Alto (30-12) and losses to the University of Scranton (25-13) and Alderson Broaddus (25-21).
 
The Bullets opened with the first four victories against Mont Alto. Sophomore Lenny Ogozalek (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) posted the eighth-fastest pin in school history, finishing Jacob Sechrist in just 19 seconds at 125. Connor followed up with a first period pin at 133 (2:02), while sophomore Jake Bracken (Chatsworth, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) and Merrigan scored 11-6 and 3-2 decisions, respectively, at the next two weight classes.
 
Freshman Crawford Oswald (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) earned a 4-3 win at 165 against Penn State Mont Alto. Sophomore Anthony Puca (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) posted a pin at 197 pounds, ending the match with just 20 seconds remaining. Junior heavyweight Camden Stoops (East Prospect, Pa./Eastern York) capped the win with a 4-0 decision.
 
Another first-period pin by Connor (2:09) and a major decision by Merrigan (10-2) gave Gettysburg a 10-9 lead against Scranton before the Royals earned four-straight wins. Puca earned a 6-0 win over Derek Fisher at 197.
 
The Bullets jumped in front of Alderson Broaddus 15-6 thanks to a pair of forfeits at 133 and 141 followed by a 7-4 decision by Merrigan at 149. The Battlers earned wins in each of the next five bouts with five of those contests decided by three points or less. Stoops picked up his second win of the afternoon by earning a pin at the end of the first period at heavyweight.
 
Gettysburg competes at the Petrofes Invitational hosted by Messiah College on Dec. 4-5.
