GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshman
Lenny Ogozalek (Summit Hill, Pa./Panther Valley) and sophomore
Camden Stoops (East Prospect, Pa./Eastern York) each notched victories for the Gettysburg College wrestling team in a 37-7 setback to No. 21 York (Pa.) College Thursday night.
Ogozalek logged a 3-0 decision over Lake Laughman in the first bout of the night at 125 pounds. After a scoreless opening period, Laughman held the Bullet first-year on the mat for the whole of the second period. Ogozalek returned the favor in the final two-minute frame and with overtime looming, he managed to turn Laughman's shoulders toward the mat for a three-point near-fall to clinch the win.
York (21-5) won each of the next six matches to take command in the team scoring. Stoops stopped the run with a dominating 13-0 major decision over Matt Zippilli at 184. He racked up a takedown and near-fall in each of the first two periods and accumulated more than six minutes of riding time in the match.
John Shorter edged freshman
Anthony Puca (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) 6-4 at 197. Puca trailed 4-1 heading into the final period before tying the match with a reversal and penalty point on Shorter. Having already clinched the riding-time point, the York grappler managed an escape and evaded Puca's takedown attempts in the final seconds.
Gettysburg next competes in the NCAA Division III East Regional Championships slated for Sunday, March 1, inside the Berglund Center in Roanoke, Va.
