Football Captains Announced

Four seniors tabbed to lead Bullets in 2015

(L-R): Brian Calatozzo, Anthony Juliano, Sam McDermott, Kodie McNamara
GETTYSBURG, Pa.Gettysburg College head football coach Barry Streeter has announced four players will don the mantle of captain for the 2015 campaign.

Leading the Bullets into the new season will be seniors Brian Calatozzo (Sewell, N.J./St. Augustine Prep), Anthony Juliano (Landisville, Pa./Lancaster Catholic), Sam McDermott (Newtown, Pa./Notre Dame (N.J.)), and Kodie McNamara (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan). McNamara is in his second stint as a team captain.

Calatozzo is a two-year starter at cornerback. He has played in all but two games during the course of his career and has totaled 122 tackles and six interceptions. He paced the team with four interceptions in 2013. Last fall, Calatozzo totaled 32 tackles and a team-high seven pass break-ups. He posted a season-high nine tackles, including three for a loss, against No. 9 Johns Hopkins University in 2014.

Juliano is coming off his best season to date. After being limited to eight games in his first two seasons, the 6-1, 255-pound lineman appeared in all but one game a year ago, including seven starts at center. He helped Gettysburg finishing second in the Centennial Conference with 222.4 rushing yards per game. The Bullets also ranked second in first downs per game (22.6), fourth in total offense (390.6 ypg), and fifth in points per game (25.1).

After serving as a back-up quarterback in his first two seasons, McDermott exploded in his first career start in last fall's finale against Franklin & Marshall College. Filling in for injured starter Zach Miller '15, McDermott became the first Bullet signal caller to post 100 yards rushing and 100 yards passing in the same game in over two years. He finished with 261 total yards and two touchdowns in the 26-14 victory.

McNamara has started every game at inside linebacker over the last three seasons. He has racked up 289 total tackles during his career, a mark that currently ranks 10th in program history. McNamara has posted at least 83 tackles each year, including a conference-best 119 stops in 2013. Last fall, he led the team and ranked third in the conference with 87 tackles, including a season-high 15 in the win over the Diplomats.

Gettysburg posted a record of 5-5 last fall, including 5-4 in the CC. Thirty-nine letterwinners and 11 starters return for Streeter's 37th year at the helm. The Bullets open the season with their only non-conference game at Bridgewater (Va.) College on Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.
