Women's Track & Field Program History

Cavanaugh_Katie
Katie Cavanaugh '16 was a two-time All-American for the Bullets

Women's track and field first appeared as a varsity sport at Gettysburg College in 1984, but the team has used that short time to make its mark.

The Bullets won the first two Centennial Conference indoor championships in 1994 and 1995. The outdoor team has taken top billing in the conference four times: 1994, 1997, 2003 and 2004.

Gettysburg student-athletes regularly compete for top honors at the conference meet and qualify for the national meet year-in and year-out. Three Bullets have copped All-America accolades, including 1995 graduate Stacy Spencer, who was a four-time honoree in the 100 and 200-meter races. Beth Castagno '00 joined Spencer with national accolades by placing top four in the high jump both indoors and outdoors in 1998. Katie Cavanaugh '16 pulled off the indoor/outdoor Centennial Conference triple, winning the 60-meter hurdles, 100-meter hurdles, and long jump in 2016. On the national stage, Cavanaugh claimed two All-America titles, placing sixth in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in the 100-meter hurdles and sixth in the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.

In 2018, Hailey Moseman '20, Danielle DeMichael '19, Paige Wesolowski '19, and Sarah Rinehart '19 became the first 4x800-meter relay team in program history to win a Centennial Conference indoor title. The quartet captured the conference title as they cruised to a time of 9:42.17 - less than two seconds shy of the school record - and won the relay by four seconds. During the outdoor season of 2018, Kendra Meredith '18 won the long jump as she leaped 18-6 1/2 to earn her first career CC title, winning by over five inches. She became Gettysburg's fifth CC outdoor long jump champion over the last six years.
