Samantha Abrams is entering her sixth season as the head softball coach and assistant volleyball coach at Gettysburg College. Abrams is a seven-year member of the Bullet coaching staff, having served as the assistant softball coach in 2006-07.
Abrams has found success in her opening five campaigns with the Orange and Blue, guiding the team to a 101-78-2 overall record. Gettysburg has qualified for the postseason three times during Abrams’ tenure and has compiled a mark of 46-33-1 against conference foes.
After posting a 13-18 mark in her first season at the helm, the Bullets made a significant leap by going 27-10-1 in 2009, marking the second-most victories in school history. In 2010, the squad went 21-16-1 and finished second in the Centennial Conference regular-season standings. The 2011 Bullets shattered the school record for home runs by knocking out 21 en route to a 19-17 overall record. Gettysburg logged its third 20-win season under Abrams with a 21-17 record in 2012.
Under Abrams’ tutelage, 27 Bullets have earned All-Centennial Conference recognition, including 13 first-team selections. Gettysburg has set a school record with seven all-conference performers in each of the last three seasons. As an assistant with the softball program in 2007, Abrams contributed to a team that went 25-15, captured the conference championship, and an appeared in the NCAA Division III Tournament. With Abrams on staff, Gettysburg is 126-93-2 over the last six seasons.
Abrams has been equally successfully as an assistant with the Bullets volleyball team, helping the squad to a 110-67 record and five postseason appearances.
Prior to her coaching career, Abrams was a four-time, first-team All-Centennial Conference selection as a pitcher/shortstop at McDaniel College, earning the award three times as a pitcher (2001, 2003, 2004) and once as a utility player (2002). She was named CC Player of the Year in 2003 after batting .339 with four homers and 21 RBI and was tabbed third-team all-region on two occasions. Abrams finished her career as the conference’s all-time leader in doubles (44), victories (60), strikeouts (426), and complete games (72). She helped the Green Terror to an overall record of 109-34 and a pair of Centennial crowns (2002, 2004).
Abrams began her coaching career as the co-head coach at South Carroll High School before taking an assistant coaching position at her alma mater, McDaniel College, in 2006. She graduated from McDaniel in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in English and has a pair of master’s degrees from her alma mater in exercise science and physical education and school library and media science.
