Nicole Ditillo is the women's lacrosse program's first-ever academic all-American.

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Rising senior Nicole Ditillo (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) of the Gettysburg College women’s lacrosse team made history with her selection to the ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-America Women’s At-Large Second Team, as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

With her selection, Ditillo becomes the first academic all-American in the proud history of Gettysburg women’s lacrosse. She also becomes the 14th academic all-American in school history and the second of the 2008-09 season, joining men’s lacrosse standout Tim Kurpis (Yorktown, N.Y./Yorktown).

Ditillo is coming off her finest season as a member of the Bullets’ nationally-ranked defense. She was tabbed first-team All-Centennial Conference as Gettysburg finished the year ranked 10th in NCAA Division III in scoring defense with an 8.25 goals against average. Ditillo started all 19 games she played and finished fifth on the team in ground balls (32) and third in both draw controls (38) and caused turnovers (tied, 17). The Bullets advanced all the way to the national semifinals and closed the year with a 16-4 record.

A double-major in English and psychology, Ditillo carries a 3.99 GPA and has been named to the Centennial Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll in each of the past two seasons.

To be nominated for academic all-America honors, a student-athlete must carry at least a 3.30 GPA, be of sophomore or higher standing, and be a starter or prominent reserve. The women’s college division at-large program includes individuals from non-Division I schools in such sports as bowling, crew, field hockey, fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water polo.
