Kevin Langhauser went a combined 6-for-9 and junior
Kyle Conklin threw a nine-inning complete-game victory in the nightcap as the Gettysburg College baseball team split a pair of one-run games with Bridgewater State (Mass.) College on the first day of the Bullets Spring Break Trip to Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Fla. Sunday morning.
The Bears (2-2) won the seven-inning opener 4-3 before Gettysburg (1-3) captured the nightcap 3-2.
Langhauser now has 99 hits for his career.
In the first game, Bridgewater State scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh. Sophomore reliever
Mike Odierna walked the first two batters he faced before giving way to senior Michael Sweeney, who gave up a single to load the bases before walking in the go-ahead run.
The Bullets led 3-1 after a two-run fifth before the Bears answered with two runs of their own in the top of the sixth against junior starter
Matt Karis, who struck out five and walked one in a no-decision.
Jim Balboni (1-0) threw a complete game for Bridgewater State, striking out six. Odierna (0-1) was charged with the loss.
Langhauser was 3-for-4 with a double in the opener.
The second game was also decided in the top of the final inning. With the score tied 2-2, Langhauser singled in the top of the ninth before junior
Cam Riera reached on a fielder's choice. Riera then stole second before Karis ripped a double to score the winning run.
After yielding a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, Conklin (1-0) settled in to blank the Bears the rest of the way, striking out two and walking three. He was the beneficiary of solid defense, as Gettysburg did not commit an error in the nightcap. The Bullets were also error-free in the opener.
Langhauser drove in each of the Bullets first two runs with singles in the third and the sixth.
Billy Blaisdell (0-1) suffered the complete-game loss for Bridgewater State.
The Bullets continue their 10-game, seven-day trip on Monday, when they take on Moravian College in a doubleheader starting at noon.
