ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's golf team tuned up for next weekend's Centennial Conference Tournament by grabbing second at its own Gettysburg Spring Invitational held at The Bridges Golf Course in Abbottstown, Pa.
The Bullets shaved 10 strokes off their score on Saturday to finish with a team-low 378 on Sunday and a 766 for the two-day event. Hollins University grabbed the top spot with a two-day total of 751 (371-380), while Nazareth College's Michelle Van Slyke took home medalist honors as the top individual finisher after putting up a tournament-low 78 on Sunday and finishing with a 163 (85-78).
Sophomore
Caroline Nathan (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman), the reigning CC individual champion, led Gettysburg on both days, including an 88 on Sunday to finish in fourth place with a 172 (84-88). Freshman
Molly Nulty (Gettysburg, Pa./Homer) was one stroke off Nathan's pace on the final day of competition and placed 10th overall with a 184 (95-89).
Juniors
Marybeth Scott (Chester Springs, Pa./The Hill School) and
Lauren Walsh (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) each dropped their scores on the second day of competition. Scott shot a 97 to wind up in 15th with a two-day total of 196 (99-97), while Walsh sliced six strokes off her score with a 104 to place 17th (110-104).
After being dethroned last spring by McDaniel College, Gettysburg will try to reclaim the conference title this weekend, April 24-25, at the Piney Branch Golf Club in Hampstead, Md. Opening tee times on Saturday start at 12:30 p.m., while Sunday's first groups set off at 11:30 a.m.
