BALTIMORE – The Gettysburg College men's tennis team ran into a road block in its quest for a fourth-straight victory as 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins University handed the Bullets their first shutout loss of the season 9-0 in Centennial Conference action Tuesday evening.
Johns Hopkins (17-4, 8-0 CC) clinched home-court advantage for the CC Tournament slated for next weekend with the victory, its 37th in a row against a conference foe. Gettysburg (9-7, 3-5 CC) suffered a sweep in doubles with its top team of sophomore
Terry Keegan (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) and
Sebastian Rodriguez (Plano, Texas/Plano) holding out the longest in an 8-4 loss to David Maldow and Ryan Rauck.
The Blue Jays handed the Bullets their first sweep of the season in singles action. Only seven games went to the visitors in the middle four flights. Junior
Will Brinks (Havertown, Pa./Episcopal Academy) picked up five points in a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Adam Mernit at No. 6.
Freshman
Chris Curran (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) gave Maldow, Hopkins' all-time wins leader, a stiff test at the top flight, taking seven games in a 6-3, 6-4 setback.
Gettysburg closes the season on Saturday, April 24, at home against Muhlenberg College at 1 p.m.
