HAMPSTEAD, Md. – It was a two-team race to the title and Gettysburg College was stuck on the outside as the Bullets were unable to gain any ground on McDaniel College and Franklin & Marshall College on the way to a third-place finish at the Centennial Conference Championship.
In the closest finish in conference history, McDaniel erased a two-stroke deficit on Sunday to claim its seventh Centennial title at the Piney Branch Golf Club. The Green Terror shot a tournament-low 355 on the final day to finish the two-day event with a 723, one stroke better than second-place Franklin & Marshall. It was all Diplomats and Green Terror on the all-conference squad with F&M's Meghan Maloney grabbing medalist honors with a 166 (86-80). Teammate Grace Gallagher (169) finished three strokes behind to take runner-up followed by McDaniel's Jennie Weiner (175), Morgan Koopman (176), and Nicole Cristy (179).
After posting a 395 on Saturday, Gettysburg put up a 406 on Sunday. Freshman
Molly Nulty (Gettysburg, Pa./Homer) just missed all-conference accolades by finishing tied for seventh with a 186 (88-98). Sophomore
Caroline Nathan (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) carded a 97 on Sunday to finish 10th at 190 (93-97).
Junior
Lauren Walsh (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) tallied 107 on day two to finish 16th with a 211 (104-107). Junior
Marybeth Scott (Chester Springs, Pa./The Hill School) was the lone Bullet to improve her score from the opening round, shaving six strokes for a 104 and finishing one spot behind Walsh in 17th with a 214 (110-104).
Gettysburg closed the year with the second-best scoring average in school history at 374.7 in addition to winning three tournament titles.
