GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The 2011 NCAA Division III champion Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team has added another member to the coaching staff as Columbia grad
Marisa Marcellino was recently named an assistant coach.
Marcellino brings a wealth of experience to the Bullets' program as a former NCAA Division I student-athlete at Columbia. She starred for four seasons on the Lions' women's lacrosse team and finished as the program's all-time points and assists leader with 164 and 87, respectively. She was a three-time All-Ivy selection and was named All-Region twice. Marcellino served as team captain twice and was tabbed the Lions' lacrosse MVP in 2008.
After graduating from Columbia with a degree in Urban Studies in 2008, Marcellino spent time working as a paralegal before a stint working in ESPN's advertising department. In the fall of 2010, she returned to lacrosse as a Local Development Officer with the English Lacrosse Association in Reading, England. While in England, she competed on the Reading Lacrosse Club and played on the England West Territorial Team.
A Washington, D.C., native, Marcellino attended St. John's College High School where she was an all-conference soccer and lacrosse player.
“Marisa will be a great addition to the Gettysburg women's lacrosse program,” said Head Coach
Carol Cantele '83. “Her energy, enthusiasm and passion are evident from the moment you meet her. She wants to coach and she wants to share her knowledge and love of the game to others.”
Cantele, the 2011 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) NCAA Division III Coach of the Year, guided the Bullets to the program's first national title this spring. Marcellino will follow in the footsteps of former assistant
Katie Hagan '07, who accepted the position of head women's lacrosse coach at Ursinus College earlier this summer.
