HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Baldwin-Wallace College won five of six singles matches to secure a 6-3 win over Gettysburg College in non-conference men's tennis action Sunday from Hilton Head, S.C.
Gettysburg (0-2) started out well in its spring debut, taking two of three doubles matches from the defending Ohio Athletic Conference champions. Senior
Chris Curran (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) and freshman
Dave Musser (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Twp.) took down Peter Harris and Doug Ganim 9-8 (7-5) at the top flight, while senior
Johnny Nelson (Big Prairie, Ohio/West Holmes) and sophomore
Will Ives (Thetford Center, Vt./Hanover) beat Alexander Kearney and Zach Elbin 9-8 (9-7) at No. 3.
Baldwin-Wallace (10-0), ranked 17th in the Central Region, rebounded in singles action with five straight-set wins. Junior
Mike Pratt (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) forced a first-set tiebreaker against Kearney at No. 3 before falling 7-6 (7-4), 6-1, while Ives went down in a second-set tiebreaker to Dan Rowsey at the sixth flight 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
Musser closed out the match by winning a super tiebreaker over Harris at No. 2. After splitting the first two sets with 6-4 scores, Musser out-lasted his Yellow Jacket opponent 12-10 in the tiebreaker.
Gettysburg returns to action tomorrow (March 11) with a match against Wheaton (Mass.) College at 11 a.m.
