HILTON HEAD, S.C. –The Gettysburg College men's tennis team fell to Wheaton (Mass.) College 8-1 in a non-conference match up on Monday.
 
Gettysburg (0-3) narrowly missed securing a point in doubles play against Wheaton (1-1), dropping 8-6 decisions at both the first and third flights.
 
The Lyons picked up three clean straight-set wins in singles competition. Senior Johnny Nelson (Big Prairie, Ohio/West Holmes) went down swinging at the fifth flight, taking Dennis Scarpa to tiebreakers in each set en route to a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4) setback.
 
Freshman Kyle Shope (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) bounced back from a 6-2 loss in the first set against Sam Jackson to take the second frame 7-5. Jackson came back in the super-tiebreaker for a 10-3 win.
 
Freshman Dave Musser (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Twp.) picked up his second singles win in as many days by bouncing back from a first-set loss to beat David Gassen 5-7, 6-3, 10-4.
 
Gettysburg faces Mississippi College on Tuesday, March 12, at 8 a.m.
