SELINSGROVE, Pa. – After resetting its own Centennial Conference and program scoring record on Saturday, the Gettysburg College women's golf team smashed the new mark less than a day later at the Susquehanna University Fall Invitational held at the Susquehanna Valley Country Club on Sunday.
Gettysburg posted a team score of 328 on Saturday at the McDaniel College Fall Invitational, bettering its own conference record by one stroke. The Bullets laid waste to the new mark on Sunday, putting up an incredible 321 as four players carded rounds of 83 or better. The Orange and Blue easily won its third-straight team title by 59 strokes over runner-up Dickinson College.
Not only did the Bullets manage a new team scoring mark, but the squad also turned in another first for the program. Freshmen
Skylar Frankiewicz (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle) and
Katie McCarthy (Westlake, Ohio/Hathaway Brown School) became the first teammates to shoot sub-80 in the same round. Frankiewicz took home the individual title with a 78, while McCarthy finished runner-up with a 79.
Gettysburg seized each of the top four spots in the individual standings. Senior
Sarah Hansen (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) finished third with an 81 and freshman
Hannah Fireman (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) tied for fourth with an 83. Sophomore
Gillian Marini (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) rounded out the starting five with a 91 to place 11th overall.
Competing as an individual, senior
Lynn Hatcher (Easton, Md./St. James School) placed in a tie for eighth after tying a personal best with an 88.
Gettysburg looks to keep rolling this fall when it hosts its own invitational next Sunday, Sept. 25, at The Links at Gettysburg.
